Alaska Boundary Tribunal Historic Maps
(Non-Georeferenced .tif Files)
These digital images of the Alaska Boundary Tribunal map collection of Southeast Alaska from the early 1900's. As snapshots in time, these images give the viewer an opportunity to chart geomorphological changes. These maps provide historical glacier terminus positions and, in the first set of maps, glacier elevations too.
These images are posted here in digital format for others in the general scientific community to use. The physical maps are archived at the Alaska State Historical Library. The images were flattened as best as possible to minimize distortion and were professionally photographed at 12 mega-pixels by Art Sutch of Juneau, Alaska in January 2005. These are .tif files and can be viewed with most software. The Excel map index (22 KB .xls file) lists the major landmarks, glaciers and survey dates (when available). The contact sheet (25 MB .tif file) includes both sets of maps. The first map set is 1:250,000 scale and includes glacier elevations. The second map set is 1:160,000 in scale and does not include glacier elevations. Download Metadata below for detailed library information. We are not responsible for the content.
For georeferenced rasters (1:250,000 only available at this time) visit the basemaps section of our downloads page.
